The Senate on this Tuesday quickly approved to legislation that will force the release of case documents concerning the deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, following a near-unanimous vote in the US House of Representatives and a shift by Donald Trump and his Republican allies. The White House relented after months of trying to block the cross-party initiative involving a scandal that has plagued the president since his return to the White House.
Expedited Approval in Both Chambers
The Senate acted by general agreement, which requires approval from each senator but avoids a recorded vote, accelerating the process. Just before, the House passed by a huge margin the bill on a 427-1 tally.
Citizens have been patient long enough. The survivors have waited patiently,” the top Senate Democrat said in a Senate remarks on Tuesday, before asking the chamber to adopt it by consent. “Uncover the facts. Ensure full disclosure.”
Presidential Signature
This legislation next heads to Trump for his approval. The president indicated on the previous day that he would approve the bill.
Even though Trump has for an extended period rejected the outcry over the official management of the investigation as a “political stunt”, he signalled his support for the legislation over the weekend, and stated he would give his assent if it comes to him.
Reaction
The Democratic party, along with victims and their advocates who were seated in a public section, cheered after the bill was passed. The only opposition came from a Louisiana Republican, who said he feared the measure would disclose identifying details of individuals involved, those under scrutiny and others implicated in the investigation.
