Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in power within the urban setting.

Note: Revealing details for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of heroes who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor (played by Travis), Thimble (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

With an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.

This explains, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might appear out of place, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the team knows exactly where to go next after a intense opening clash with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his personal gain, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking the rogue, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.

Casimir then settled his debts and ran away to a fortified location in the remote area, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each adventurer has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, wants retribution.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a hostile location.
  • The strong character and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could help the group reach locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the authorities that rule the setting for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This results in them little choice but to travel to the remote area in quest for the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we discover that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to round up the Explorers and Schemers parties.

Fans can look forward to learning which players will be where in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
