Micky van de Ven scored on two occasions as Spurs prolonged their unbeaten run on the road in the Premier League and handed the Toffees their first defeat at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Toffees were unbeaten in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at the dockside location, having departed Goodison Park behind after more than a century at the end of last season.

But Tottenham's leader Van de Ven struck on two occasions from corners in the first half to place their strong form at jeopardy, and they were failed to mount a comeback before the midfielder - assisted by ex-Everton forward Richarlison - headed home a final goal to seal the victory.

The Everton defender thought he had levelled the scores a short while after Van de Ven's opener, directing a powerful header past Guglielmo Vicario from an set-piece.

Beto, meanwhile, failed to convert a number of chances, while Vicario made a succession of excellent saves to guarantee the London club went five away games without defeat in the English top flight.

But the video assistant referee stepped in, advising Craig Pawson to check the score on the pitchside monitor and the official decided that the winger and the attacker were in offside positions and had impeded with the Spurs keeper.

The win elevates the manager's side up to third in the Premier League, five points off local foes and leaders the Gunners.

The Merseyside club remain in 14th position and are six points clear of the relegation zone.

Following a uninspiring weekday display in the European competition against Monaco, where they mustered a only two shots on goal, Frank chose the French striker up front instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The summer signing was failed to make much of an impact before being replaced for the substitute after an hour on the field, but it turns out he wasn't needed in the end.

Defender Van de Ven transformed into an offensive threat to be feared.

Tottenham's first goal came from a cleverly executed corner routine, with the midfielder directing the ball back across the six-yard box for an unmarked the defender to head home.

And the captain - filling in as captain in Cristian Romero's unavailability - added his second in added time as he outjumped the England keeper to head home.

Van de Ven was equally outstanding in defence, combining well with his defensive colleague as the duo dealt superbly with the 34 crosses sent their way by the opposition.

Everton's new home had been a fortress, but it seems the freshness may have worn off slightly and fans flocked to the gates after Sarr's final goal for Tottenham.

The end in Everton's unbeaten home run will not be a massive concern for the manager, but their striker situation are.

The forward and the other striker - the Toffees' pair of established strikers - had netted only one league goal between them before Sunday's outing.

And they were unable to contribute to that poor record on a wet and gloomy night on Merseyside.

The striker's performance was epitomized when he opted to overhead kick a clear chance from close range, despite having room and time to reposition for a more conventional shot that would have challenged the keeper.

The substitute, as well, failed to make an impact after replacing Beto in the second half.

It was not for a lack of opportunity. The majority of Everton's attacks came through the winger and Ndiaye, who relentlessly delivered dangerous balls into the Spurs penalty area.

Everton: Moyes' men head to the Stadium of Light in the Premier League on Monday, 3 November at 8 PM.

Tottenham: The London club travel to Newcastle's ground on Wednesday, 29 October for their next round Carabao Cup tie against the Magpies.
